Ad-Aware Free is a, you guessed it, free software used to protect your PC from the most malicious of spyware. Ad-Aware is the oldest and most popular among anti-spyware protection. With a whopping user-base of over 20 million and over 1 million registered users , no one can can really argue with statistics. Ad-Aware Free provides great scanning speeds and an excellent malware detection rate. What more can one ask for.
Spy-Bot S&D is another near legend in free spyware removal software. This pprogram is one of my personal favorites due to it's very extensive malware database. This allows it to recognize almost any type of malware and do exactly what it's name states, search and destroy. I highly recommend this free software to novice and experienced users alike.
Advanced Spyware Remover may not be one of the most popular anti-spyware programs, but it is definitely one of the best in my opinion. ASR has one of the best scanners I've come across in terms of speed and decent detection rates. One downside though, is that is produces a lot of false positives so you'll probably want to use it in conjunction with another program such as Spy-Bot S&D. The two of them combined should provide great spyware security for your PC.
While CWShredder is not a complete anti-spyware application, it makes my list today because of it's one specific task. CWShredder was created to do one thing, and that is to find and completely remove a very malicious malware called “coolwebsearch”. CWShredder does what Spy-Bot S&D and Ad-Aware can not, and that is completely destroy all remnants of “coolwebsearch”. Although this will not be your main anti-spyware solution, it is a very good idea to keep this free handy.
